Please Be Safe, Consume Alcohol Responsibly

The last of the snow has melted, and winter is finally over. It's time to go to one of your favorite restaurants, sit out on the patio, and have a nice, juicy steak alongside a glass of your favorite beer. Before we officially kick off a season of fun in the sun and celebration, we want to remind you that with alcohol consumption comes alcohol responsibility.

You need to know your limits, the laws around alcohol, and the need to be safe. Too many lives are lost to drunk drivers each year. As a vendor of beers, ciders, and malt beverages, we want you to practice alcohol safety. This means safe consumption and knowing the law.

Safe Consumption

safe_consumptionWhile a long and chilly winter will leave you drinking hot chocolate and Irish cream in your home, when the sun comes out, so do the events that are notorious for over-consumption. Before attending any of these events you need to know how much you're going to drink, how to stay within that limit, where you're going to stay, and how you're going to get home.

College Grad Parties

Graduation is a time of celebration. You've spent the last few years of your life dealing with late-night exam stress, teachers, and everything else that comes with a college student lifestyle. It's only natural to let loose. Often times, celebrations include alcohol consumption. Before heading out to your grad party, be sure to plan out how you're going to get home.

Weddings

Open bars are particularly dangerous – it's easier to consume alcohol responsibly when you're paying for every drink. But when money isn't a factor, some people risk indulging too much. If the bride and groom aren't offering cab fare or a ride home program, be sure to have a designated driver – and be sure to treat them well throughout the evening!

Sporting Events

Whether you're headed to an afternoon baseball game or going to play the back nine with some friends, beer is a staple at sporting events. Unfortunately, when you get a large group of people together, some of them are going to go over their alcohol consumption limit. It's great to enjoy a cold brew while watching batters knock out a few home runs, but stick within your personal limit.

The Great Outdoors

There's nothing like the smell of campfire. Naturally, with camping, come a few choice brews. Unfortunately, as no one has to drive, personal limits are sometimes forgotten.

The problem? With camping comes fire and rivers – two things that are incredibly dangerous to an intoxicated person. Even if you don't have to drive anywhere, keep a firm limit on what you drink.

Alcohol Laws

First off, the big one: the legal drinking age in Minnesota is 21. For drivers under 21, a zero tolerance policy is enforced for any sign of alcohol. If you’re under 21, please be responsible and wait until you’re of age to drink alcoholic beverages. For drivers over 21, don’t forget that a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08% is the legal limit. Plan accordingly!

Bernick's Commitment to Alcohol Responsibility

As a distributor of alcoholic beverages, Bernick's maintains a commitment in ensuring alcohol safety. We partner in the communities that we serve to offer ‘Safe Ride Initiative’ support including acting as co-sponsors of the St. Cloud Hospitality Association's Safe Cab Program. Every day of the year, this program offers free rides home to both restaurant and bar patrons.

The best part? It's working. Currently, Minnesota has the fourth lowest rate of drunken driving fatalities in the USA. Programs such as this one have played a large part in that statistic.

Enjoy Summer Responsibly

When you go out with your family and friends this summer, whether it's to grab a meal or watch the ball game, have a great time. But while you're there, please think about your alcohol responsibility, and consume it safely. Cheers
